ARTISTS TO INSPIRE – MILIND MULICK

MILIND MULICK SAYS
“In sketching , observing your subject has equal or more importance than the drawing itself . Concentrate more on how the object appears than the drawing itself .”

When did Mulick Milind start?
Mulick Milind started painting at the age of 5 and at the age of 13 his watercolour earned him National Talent Scholarship to study painting.

His dad Pratap Mulick is also a famous Indian illustrator and Comics Artist.

Mulick Milind’s works are shown at exhibitions in India and in many countries.
He has authored many books in painting and also teaches and guides art enthusiasts in our country and internationally.

MULICK MILIND ON DISTINCT STYLE
“One’s own style comes from one’s perception of what should be shown in the picture ; what should be emphasized , and to what extent ; what should be concealed and what should be avoided . The perception will obviously differ as per one’s nature”

What was his early work and study?
He’s an engineering graduate , from College of Engineering ,Pune.
He worked as an illustrator for an architectural firm for about 15 years while still pursuing watercolor painting, and became an all time artist in 1995 with an exhibition in Pune.

His say on colors
“No colour in a painting can be perceived separately ; it can be done only in relation with other colors around it (as it is with tones) .”

On painting
“Vision is the artist’s statement.
It is the difference between a camera and a painter . A camera merely records the sight whereas a painting is the outcome of the artist’s vision”

His paintings are in demand for corporate offices & private collectors in the US , Europe , Japan , Singapore & have been selected for numerous watercolor society exhibitions including 3 consecutive years with American Watercolor Society.

He also gives watercolor demonstrations in Government Art College in Maharashtra.

His say on practicing sketching
“Practice sketching as much as you can . Sketch anything and everything you see. The basic objective of sketching is practice . The basic objective of sketching is practice . In fact practice marks the fundamental difference between sketching and painting.
When a musician practises , his aim is to improve his understanding of the composition he is going to present , to enrich the quality of his performance and so on . In a concert when he sings , it is his performance.
The standard of his performance depend on his practice . In the same way sketching is the practice while painting or illustration is the performance of the painter.”

Labelling himself as an artist,Mulick calls himself a painter of community spaces. I don’t paint structures that are larger than life, confesses Mulick. He explains that he’d rather deal with a subject that is more immediate to the multitudes. For example,I do not see any beauty in the Taj Mahal. To me it is a symbol of disparity between how the kings lived and how their subjects lived. Even appearance-wise I don’t find anything spectacular about it,apart from the fact that it is very expensive; which does not impress me a lot, he says.

Art is to unleash us , we cannot put it in a box to say we cannot earn from art is what I personally as a writer of this blog could think from all this art and artist inspiration.

For young budding artists who are stepping into the field of art , artists like Milind Mulick Sir is a great inspiration , there is a lot of faith and hope in the field of art for truly devoted artists , unleash the artist in you , escape the inhibitions .
